Align Starter Shaft Replacement

We noticed that the shaft sticks in the adaptor at times. Here's the fix.

You will need:

Here's what you do:

Disassemble the shaft

Remove the plastic handle by putting it in boiling water for a couple minutes.

Heat the ball end of the new shaft until it is cherry red, then let it cool slowly. If you don't do this, you will need a carbide bit to drill the hole and chances are good that it will break off, ruining the bit and the shaft. I know...I broke 5 carbide bits before I tried the torch trick and they aren't cheap. This shaft is HARD.

Drill two holes centered 10mm and 20mm from the ball end of the new shaft. File or grind off any burrs then reassemble the shaft using the original bolts.

Your done and now you have a shaft that will last much longer. You don't need a ball on the end for any model that we know of. I've been using one of these shafts on my Dynatron starter for years.
