TREX 100 SETUP TIPS

Jeff Green, who manages Heliwholesaler, has put together a list of things that he checks when someone has a problem with their Trex 100. If, after checking all of this, it still doesn't work, there might be a problem with the board.

  • Check upper mixing arms for proper tightness. Using the included screwdriver, tighten the mixing arm retaining screws on each side fully to stop and then back off ¼ turn or a little more until free but not full of end play. This will help the hovering stability tremendously. (refer to manual page 4 step 2 & page 17 step 11)
  • When attaching the head to the main shaft, use the provided screw driver and tighten to stop.
  • Make sure that the links from the swashplate to the head are straight, in the head linkage guide and free to move. (refer to manual page 4 step 1)
  • Connect the two swash to rotor head linkages to the shorter length ball studs of the swashplate inner ring. The longer ball studs are for more control authority and more experienced pilots. (Refer to manual page 4 step 1)
  • Put the two servo control rods in the inner hole of each servo to reduce throws, thus making the helicopter easier to fly. (Refer to manual page 4 Step 2)
  • Make adjustments to the servo control rods as necessary to stop unwanted excessive drifting in flight. For example If the helicopter wants to drift to the left and forward, increase the length of the left servo control rod until the helicopter does not drift in that direction any more. If the helicopter wants to drift forward only, increase the length of both control rods until the drift stops. Opposite drifting movement is adjusted the same way, servo rods are adjusted opposite of helicopter drifting. (Refer to manual page 16 Steps 9 and 10)
  • Fine adjustments can be made with the trims on the radio.
  • Also note the tilt of the helicopter to the right upon take off is normal and by design. See page 14 under Throttle control Practice.
